What carb do you have? Puchs usually came with a 12 or 14mm Bing carb. Usually mopeds backfire if the timing is way, way off, but if you're hitting 40 mph that is probably not the case.

These days most people run 50:1 with full synthetic oil. To my knowledge most Puch documentation called for 25:1 since oils were pretty bad back then.

I'm actually surprised the manual calls for 50:1. Moped headlights are already really dim.ģ2:1 / 50:1 really does not matter very much. I'm not sure I'd bother with the lights' high/low settings. There are wiring diagrams that can aid with this. If you really want everything working how it did originally, I'd start by wiring up the original killswitch, then changing the horn wiring. The killswitch was bypassed and the horn was probably connected to the ignition to simply ground it out and therefore kill the engine. And it hauls, reaching almost 40 (I'm ballparking this since my speedo only goes up to 30)ġ & 2: In all likelihood, a previous owner wired it this way because the original wiring was simply too complicated to figure out. Other than that, the moped starts up very easy. I don't see a low/high jet on this carb, I only see one needle. I tried tuning the carb of my goped but I could never get it right. Should I use his ratio seeing as how the carb is tuned for that? If not, I'm not that good at tuning carbs (actually I'm horrible).

I hear crackling sounds when releasing off the gas, which I think is backfire. The previous owner ran a 32:1 ratio but the manual calls for 50:1. Instead of having the engine switch act as the killswitch, my horn button is the killswitch. The headlight works on both low settings but not the light. The light switch has three settings reading "low" for the top and bottom and "lights" in the middle. The engine switch reads "stop" and "run" but will start on either setting. The levers for the light and engine don't work properly. I just bought a JC Penney Pinto and mostly everything is in working order. New to this subreddit and working on mopeds in general. Note: not scooters, not motorcycles, not motor bicycles, not supermotos. This bike is almost done. For friendly riders of mopeds (and nopeds)! I can't believe I finally completed this conversion. I had this conversion in mind ever since I bought this bike almost 20 years ago. I felt it was easier to convert it that way. I wanted to keep the 87 speedo dash instead of the DJ-1R dash. Wasn't pleasant but all worth it at the end. I hacked the headset a bit to make it fit. I modified the handlebar to make the headset fit. I changed out the 87 handlebar for the ZX handlebar that my disc brake and fork came with. So I bought the much cooler DJ-1RR double headlights instead!! This sucker was a pretty rare find. The set I originally picked up was a DJ-1R version headlight set. Took on the challenge to finally convert my 1987 Honda Elite headlight to the DJ-1RR set I picked up in Japan.
